Why do we need competition law?
Competition law wants to support the
functioning of the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) area. Therefore, the rules of articles 175-179
Treaty of Chaguaramas on the prohibition
of anti-competitive business conduct and the abuse of a dominant position in a
market ensure that enterprises do not prevent, restrict or distort competition
in a manner that prevents the market from functioning properly. Consumer
welfare is the main goal of competition law.
Where to find consumer- and competition law in the CARICOM legislation?
The Treaty of Chaguaramas is
regulating in chapter 8, art. 168- 186, competition policy and consumer
protection.
